The Leonardo Effect

This is the name given to an educational approach to learning in which is made up of stages which Children follow by inquiring.

This is using first hand experiences to inspire them to ask questions. They do this by finding out what they want to learn about and then thinking about questions they would like to find out about the topic.

Stage Two - Development
This process then allows individuals to explore in depth and learn through their own experiences. This allows children to make connections between things and develop their learning capacities including skills, knowledge and understanding.

Stage Three - Creation
They could also use the opportunity of applying any previous knowledge that they may have on the topic. When the right amount of knowledge has been gained the creativity then becomes the main focus.

Stage Four - Reflect and Communicate
This is where the children evaluate their own work and communicate what they have learnt to others in the school. They realise what they have learnt and then are able to teach others of this.

These four stages allows teaching to be taught creatively and effectively. It allows us as individuals also to learn what we want to learn regardless of our ability to do so.

As Part of a Group Task, Me and Fellow student Nicole were given the topics
  • Water
  • Fire
  • Earth
  • Air

  • From this we then had to choose a topic relating to one of those four topics and choose something which interested us and find information out about it to then later deliver back to the rest of the class. We first had to discuss what do we knew about this topic, what we wanted to know, How we could find out more information and what resources we needed to collect this information. After doing so, we applied any previous knowledge we had on the topic and added to the poster. After finishing we then presented our poster to the rest of the class and taught them what new knowledge we had gained and explained what we already knew confidently.
The result of our group Task is shown above.
In todays education, This type of learning allows pupils to explore their own ideas further and allows amazing results to happen if pupils are encouraged enough to do so. Bringing out a child's confidence is an important aspect of development as it encourages them to better in their work as well as thinking independently. The Leonardo effect is a good way for children to express themselves creatively.
